Go Bus Transport’s best bus drivers from across New Zealand are busy brushing up on their theory and practicing their bus maneuvering, ahead of the company’s bi-annual Bus Roadeo competition at the Airforce Museum in Wigram on Saturday March 11.

Eleven finalists will compete for the ‘crown’ of best bus driver at New Zealand’s largest bus company.  Drivers will demonstrate their capabilities in four different disciplines – theory, vehicle inspection, customer service and driving skills.

“The Bus Roadeo is a celebration of the exceptional driving and customer service skills we aim to instill into every one of our drivers,” Go Bus Managing Director Calum Haslop says.

“From a nationwide pool of 2,200 employees 11 finalists have emerged, with representatives from both the urban and school bus divisions of our company. Six are from the North Island and five from the South,” he says.

Prizes will be awarded for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place, as well as prizes for sub categories such as customer service. The top prize is a travel voucher with a value of $2000.

The bus roadeo concept started in the United States 40 years ago, and Go Bus has been running its own version in New Zealand for a number of years.
